'The Buffalo Sabres announced today that the team has extended qualifying offers to 22 restricted free agents.'
'"We had the lockout and the new [collective-bargaining agreement], and that's why we went through all this, so teams like the Buffalo Sabres could survive and keep all their players. We'll see if the CBA is really working or we're back to the same thing as it was before."'
'"We like our team for the most part, but we still have question marks."'
'Meanwhile the Sabres, and the rest of the NHL gear up for the start of free agency on July 1st. "It will be interesting to see what goes on, what players fall first.", said Ruff. "It will be an interesting July from the standpoint of seeing what players do, what they are offered, and what players move."'
'Offers have been given to Daniel Briere, Martin Biron, Maxim Afinogenov, Brian Campbell, Tim Connolly, J.P. Dumont, Paul Gaustad, Jeff Jillson, Dmitri Kalinin, Ales Kotalik, Toni Lydman, Adam Mair, Ryan Miller, Andrew Peters, Jason Pominville, Taylor Pyatt, Derek Roy, Henrik Tallinder, Nathan Paetsch, Chris Thorburn and Mike Ryan.'
'Lindy Ruff says Connolly is starting to get better. When asked if he's close to being fully recovered Ruff responded with a no.'
'With unrestricted free agency set to open in less than a week, one would suspect that in the days ahead it will be a priority to name the new head coach of the Manitoba Moose. Former Moose captain and assistant coach Scott Arniel remains the front-runner and got some words of encouragement from a guy he played for and worked with.'
'"I think Darcy is really trying and that's the important part," Lupien said. "If he said, `No, we won't trade him,' then we would have a problem. But he said, `We're going to look into it,' and that's good enough for me."'
'"I would be [disappointed], but that's not a shot at the Sabres or anybody in Buffalo," Biron said. "It's just that there comes a point where you want to do more. This year was fun and nice and I was happy to be a part of it. I just wish I could do more."'
