'When the Riverside ice rink's fiscal health fell victim to the city and then county's budget blues, the board of Hasek's Heroes stepped in and took over. Hasek's Heroes, a nonprofit group started by former Sabres goaltender Dominik Hasek, was running a hockey program for 200 inner-city kids. The rink was also home to several other teams and leagues. But the board of directors saw an opportunity to maintain a service for the community, and the members decided to do it.'
