NHL Slow to Experiment

When Patrick first joined the NHL, the game was more open than it is today. Video pre-scouting of games was non-existant and as a result, teams tended to trade scoring chances. Often, a failed scoring chance at one end would turn into an excellent opportunity at the other. Now? Instead of asking players to speed the game up, the mantra is to slow it down.’
