'"I've always wanted to play for Buffalo," Marchant said last week. "I grew up here. I grew up watching these guys play. I have a home here. My family is from here. It would be a great situation, but there are more factors to it. I'm not going to lie; money is a factor. The term of the contract is a factor. You only get an opportunity like this once in a lifetime, and we're going to take advantage of it. Whether it was a mistake by (the Oilers) or an opportunity for us, we're not going to let go."'

'Lindy Ruff says he wants to be more "comfortable" with his roster before deciding whether to remain the Buffalo Sabres' head coach. He sounds like a man who wants more of a say in personnel matters. You can't blame him. Darcy Regier is on thin ice as general manager. Coaches almost invariably make a play for more power when they sense that the GM is weakened. It's amazing. In most NHL organizations, the coach wouldn't be out for more power after missing the playoffs two straight seasons. He'd be out of a job.'
