'Interestingly, the day before suffering the injury, Afinogenov had signed a two-year, $2.4 million US contract with Buffalo. But he hasn't been paid any of the money yet because he has not passed his physical with the team and is not on the roster.'
The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced plans to build a $225 million arena on the site of an old hospital across from their current home. No one will be happier to leave behind the house of horrors known as The Igloo more than Marty Biron, who was torched for five goals on 23 shots in last night's loss to the Pens.

With all due respect to Coors Light, I'd say the Sabres must have the worst marketing of any product, entertainment or otherwise. Seriously, if I went by their commercials, I'd say Gilbert Perreault was still the captain and that Baby Joe Mesi had fought his way onto the team.
'Almost every time the Sabres opened the penalty box gate they opened themselves up for disaster against the Pittsburgh Penguins' deadly offense.'
'Maxim Afinogenov's immediate future looks grim, and there are no guarantees his long-term prospects will be much rosier.'
'The Sabres threatened to get back in the game with Jochen Hecht's power-play goal at 13:04 of the second period. The Penguins reclaimed control in the first minute of the third period with a goal created purely by the skills of their stars. Lemieux stole the puck in the neutral zone and made a pass to Kovalev, who quickly faked his way past defenseman Rhett Warrener and scored for the 5-2 lead.'
'Lemieux played 19:28 in Friday's 7-3 loss at Detroit and logged 26:01 in Saturday's 5-2 home victory over Buffalo.'
'After the game, Sabres Coach Lindy Ruff said flatly that "we got smoked," and that his team had been aware of the perils of giving the Penguins too many opportunities with the extra man.'
