'Alexei Zhitnik's agent isn't interested in making his client the highest-paid Buffalo Sabre – he just wants Zhitnik to earn more than the Sabres happen to be paying anyone else. "We're looking for $4 million. It's very simple and very logical," agent Serge Levin said.'

'If there is one player worth watching this season it will be Connolly. This youngster has the potential to score goals and add up points. This playmaking center now is surrounded with a supporting cast, unlike his days with the Islanders. With the NHL experience he already has, Connolly is on the verge of a breakout year. This could be that year.'
'Tickets for individual Sabres home games go on sale Sept. 17 at 9 a.m. They range in price from $23 to $108.'
'Archambault represents Buffalo's J.P. Dumont, a restricted free agent. Last week, Archambault accused the Sabres of insulting Dumont by offering him the standard 10 percent qualifying offer over his 2000-01 salary of $875,000. He called it "ridiculous." He suggested the team had "laughed at" Dumont. He demanded "respect" and said Dumont was ready to sit out training camp if he didn't get a contract commensurate with his status as Buffalo's second-leading scorer. But by Thursday, Archambault was already backing off. Reached in Montreal, he described the situation as a "misunderstanding" and said he was looking forward to meeting with Sabres management.'
'This fall, the organization will launch the Buffalo Sabres-Oxygen Icebreakers Program to encourage the growth of girls hockey in Western New York. "This is the first organized program that any NHL team has done with girls hockey," said John Cimperman, Sabres executive vice president for integrated marketing. "What we want to do is basically throw gasoline on what we see as a small fire in women's hockey. We want to really get behind it and support it."'
'"Eric provided us great depth and toughness last season. He improved tremendously and we look forward to his developing further this season," said General Manager Darcy Regier.'
'The 24-year-old Boulton appeared in 35 games as a rookie last season, scoring one goal and getting two assists. He earned himself a reputation as an enforcer, finishing third on the Sabres with 94 penalty minutes.'
'Daniel Mason, an assistant professor of sports management at the University of Maryland, said the Sabres approach to pitching the team is a strong one for a small market team like Buffalo that can face financial difficulties hanging onto marquee players for the long-haul.'
'"Right now, the offer they sent is ridiculous. He likes Buffalo, he likes everything, he wants to play – but not for this money," Archambault said. "We don't want to break the bank in Buffalo, but we need the respect."'
'The Buffalo Sabres signed minor-league defenseman Rory Fitzpatrick, a 26-year-old Rochester native, on Tuesday.'
