Miller, Ellis have perfect touch as Sabres win in Bruins' house [5:35 AM]
LetsGoSabres.com reports:
'From his incredible grab of Marc Savard's sure goal 90 seconds into the first period to his insignificant clutch of Zdeno Chara's rink-long volley as time expired in the third, Ryan Miller was where the biggest win of the season began and ended.'

Sabres end Bruins 10 game winning streak [6:56 PM]
LetsGoSabres.com reports:
'It was a great game to watch, although the third period was rather dry. Buffalo played a more defensive style and neither team managed to score a goal in the final frame. But the first two periods featured six goals, four from Buffalo, and plenty of offensive hockey. One of the more entertaining aspects of the game was Ryan Miller, who made some great saves that looked like Dominik Hasek was back in net. And it was worth watching to see Ellis go for the hat trick. He had a few great chances at it, but came up short. This was a great all-around performance and it was a game that was worth watching from start to finish.'
Buffalo 4, Boston 2 [4:09 PM]
The Sports Network reports:
'The Bruins entered the contest with wins in 10 straight games and a 14-game home winning streak. Boston hadn't lost since a 3-1 setback at Washington on December 10 and was last beaten at the Garden by Toronto on October 23. Buffalo, however, opened a 2-0 lead in the first period and never trailed in capturing its second straight win. Thomas Vanek and Paul Gaustad also scored for the Sabres, while Ryan Miller made 29 saves in the victory.'
Ellis Scores Twice; Sabres Topple Bruins 4-2 [3:48 PM]
WGR-AM reports:
'Ellis added his second goal of the game a little over three minutes into the second period, taking a pass from Ales Kotalik and catching Thomas out of position to make it a 3-1 Buffalo lead. The Bruins pulled to within one yet again later in the period when Sean Thornton, known mostly for his fists rather than his scoring touch, floated a weak shot that fluttered over the glove of Miller and into the net. The Sabres went up 4-2 in the second when Andrej Sekera shot one toward the net that deflected off of Paul Gaustad, who was credited with the goal; his 4th of the year.'
Ellis scores a pair as Sabres beat Bruins [3:38 PM]
AP reports:
'It was just Boston’s third home loss of the season, and the first since a 4-2 setback to Toronto on Oct. 23. The other was a 2-1 shootout loss against Pittsburgh in the home opener.'
Win against mighty Bruins could buoy Sabres [3:37 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports:
'"We got to treat this as a statement game," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said Friday after the Sabres practiced at HSBC Arena. "I'm really interested to see what we bring and who brings it. It's a situation where we can say, 'Boy, we're going to put an end to Boston's streak and we're going to keep this thing going and build off the level we competed at last game.' Or you end up stepping back and say, 'You weren't good enough.'"'
Some Sabres are skating on thin ice [6:55 AM]
Buffalo News reports:
'“It’s not my job to look the other way,” Ruff said Friday after his team prepared for today’s matinee in Boston. “I’m not the type of guy that wants to embarrass people, but I am going to be tough. It’s going to be, ‘You’ve got to play this way, or you won’t be able to play.’ We’ll either take off and go, and everybody gets hunkered in, or you’ll keep waddling until we have to destroy a couple pieces.”'
Gerbe heads to Portland for playing time [6:55 AM]
Buffalo News reports:
'“He needs to play, and he needs to play a lot,” Ruff said. “With the makeup of the lines, with him not being in the top three [lines], it’s not a position for him to be playing. I had a good discussion with him. I think his game has a ways to go, but he did a lot of good things. The energy he brought to the game was a real good thing for us.”'

Sabres pound Leafs [7:54 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports:
'“I think it’s something we definitely talked about before the game,” Pominville said. “We wanted to be hard on the puck; we wanted to be hard on the forecheck, which I thought we did.”'
Hecht fights out of doghouse [7:53 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports:
'“Just based on how you’re playing,” Ruff said of his decision to sit Hecht early. “Based on the way he started last game, which was poor. I just think sometimes you have to take a step back and evaluate yourself and say, ‘Boy, I got to be better. If this team’s going to be better, I have to be better.’ “In Jochen’s case, in talking with him, he agrees,” he said. “He’s never gone through something like this.”'
Sabres return C Gerbe to Portland [5:47 PM]
AP reports:
'Buffalo’s fifth-round draft pick in 2005, Gerbe signed a three-year deal potentially worth $2.55 million in May after he led Boston College to the national title.'
Gerbe reassigned to Portland [5:46 PM]

Gerbe Goes Down [3:12 PM]
WGR-AM reports:
'"The make-up of the lines with him not being in the top-3, it's not a position for him to be playing. I had a good discussion with him. I think his game has a ways to go but he did a lot of good things. His energy that he brought to the game was a real good thing for us."'
Sabres employ call and response [6:31 AM]
Buffalo News reports:
'"There wasn't much to dislike," Ruff said. "It was a big improvement from the other night."'
Hecht gets the message after his ice time shrinks [6:30 AM]
Buffalo News reports:
'"I kind of knew I wouldn't play much," Hecht said. "I practiced on the fourth line the day before. I didn't expect to sit the first 10 minutes, but I expected to get less ice time."'
Points finally come for Roy [6:29 AM]
Niagara Gazette reports:
'While he’s happy with the honor, he’s more excited with the effort Buffalo put forth two nights after one of their worst showings of the season. “We had a closed door meeting after the game and decided it doesn’t matter if you’re 5-foot-6 or 6-foot-5, everyone had to battle hard,” he said.'
Miller still perfect on penalty shots [6:28 AM]
Niagara Gazette reports:
'Miller’s streak started on March 25, 2006 when he stopped Boston’s Travis Green. He’s also stopped Philly’s Mike Richards (2006), Ottawa’s Jason Spezza (2006), Minnesota’s Marian Gaborik (2007), Rick Nash of Columbus (2007), Arron Asham of New Jersey (2007) and Nashville’s Scott Nichol (2008).'
Sabres shooting for consistency [6:27 AM]
Toronto Sun reports:
'"We haven't been able to separate. That's the disappointing part. We'll win a game and follow it up with a tough (loss). We haven't played well at home (10-9-2), which has been a bone of contention. We've played better hockey on the road and hopefully, we can continue that."'
Sabres answer Ruff's call [6:26 AM]
Toronto Globe & Mail reports:
'"It's funny, I didn't hear the [Ruff] interview after the game. ... I know he said our best players weren't our best players and I totally agree with him," Roy said.'

Roy, Pominville each score twice as Buffalo cruises past Toronto 4-1 [6:23 AM]
CP reports:
'“We were hard on a lot of plays and there wasn’t much to dislike,” Ruff said. “Special teams were good, our counter-attacks were good, we made it easy on our defenceit was a big improvement from the other night.”'
Buffalo 4, Toronto 1 [6:22 AM]
The Sports Network reports:
'"We got everybody on the same page tonight," said Roy. "We were skating hard and moving the puck well. We came out in the second and kept working hard. As a team we have to step up and play hard and I think we did that tonight."'
