With the season on the line and down by one, the Sabres settled in for a faceoff to the left of Toronto Maple Leafs rookie goaltender Ben Scrivens.

Sabres Spiral to Bottom of the East
The sinking Sabres (19-24-5) are currently tied with the Carolina Hurricanes (17-24-9) at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with 43-points, but if the Hurricanes can snag at least a point at home against Winnipeg Monday, the idle Sabres will be dwelling alone in the basement of the East.

Sabres 2nd Blogger Summit
The Buffalo Sabres opened the doors of the First Niagara Center and extended their hospitality to some of the team’s biggest fans, Wednesday.
Approximately 20-bloggers from across the city were invited down to the arena and allowed a one-on-one question-and-answer session with team President, Ted Black.
Sabres Squeak Past Oilers
On an icy night in Buffalo, NY the Sabres used a third period spark to surge past the Edmonton Oilers 4-3, Tuesday.
Despite First Niagara Center being sold out, the silence in the building resembled midnight mass on Christmas Eve.
Ruff’s Refuge
Since 1997, when the Buffalo Sabres first hired Lindy Ruff to be the franchises 15th head coach, there have been; 14 different Stanley Cup Champions, 13 other coaches to win the Jack Adams Award (NHL’s top coach) and 168 different coaching changes.
Of the 14 coaches to win Lord Stanley’s cup over that span only four still stand behind the bench of the team with whom they won; Claude Julien (BOS), Joel Quenneville (CHI), Dan Bylsma (PIT) and Mike Babcock (DET). Not coincidentally the last four coaches to win the cup.
The Sabres struggles this season have beckoned the questioning of Ruff’s stronghold on his place as longest tenured bench master in the NHL.
All Swedish, No Finnish

Boston Bruins power forward Milan Lucic mishandled a breakaway pass through the neutral zone and the puck squirted ahead into the Buffalo end.
Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller raced out to clear the failed break and Lucic crashed into him at full speed, sending the All-Star goalie and his team into a dizzying tailspin.
Miller would not finish the game and is out indefinitely due to concussion-like symptoms. The Sabres failed to muster up the guts to defend their goaltender physically or on the scoreboard throughout the rest of the game. The 6-2 loss was more disconcerting for the Sabres cowardly retreat rather than the final outcome.

A Tale of Two Teams
In larger cities there is an excess of distractions for the average citizen to escape the monotony of a daily routine. For the residents of Buffalo, New York as the Bills and Sabres go, so does the demeanor of an entire city.
The idea that the two local professional sports franchises have such an impact on the city’s mood is more a testament to the passion of the fans rather than a knock on the other aspects of entertainment the city has to offer.
No Place Like Home
Coming off the first official road trip of the season, the Sabres’ brass has to be pleased with the effort and results the team produced over the four game span.
Taking 6-of-8 points on the road is outstanding, but combined with the recent trip to Europe (where the Sabres were technically the home team in Finland) to kickoff the season, the Sabres have taken 10-of-12 possible points all away from the friendly confines of ‘Hockey Heaven.’
Sitting one point behind the division leading Maple Leafs shouldn’t leave Sabres faithful too high, nor too low, especially considering the Leafs played 5-of-7 games in the comfort of the Air Canada Centre in downtown Toronto.
Depth Finally a Strength in Buffalo
While the temperature in Western New York gradually cools, the Buffalo Sabres are cranking up the thermostat down at the newly renovated First Niagara Center.
After a flawless trip across the pond that netted the team four points and two gritty wins over tough Western Conference opponents, the Sabres used a week off to prepare for a home contest versus Carolina, Friday, only to hit the road to Pittsburgh, Saturday.
