‘“It’s a big upgrade,” Buffalo Place Executive Director Michael Schmand said during the downtown business district group’s monthly board meeting Wednesday. “We need to thank the Sabres.”’

What Advanced Stats Say about the Sabres Pt. 4: Luke Adam

‘It still remains a mystery why Lindy Ruff decided on Nov. 12 to remove Adam from his line with Pominville and Vanek. He was producing and the team was winning. Adam’s glaring flaws were his ineffectiveness on the power play and weak puck possession numbers, which may reflect his poor defensive play. But Ruff was using him correctly, starting him largely in the offensive zone, putting him in a position to do what he does best. Even if he was a liability in the D-zone, Adam was plus-1 in the first 15 games.’

Off-Season Game Plan: Buffalo Sabres

‘Upgrading the number one centre spot won’t be easy, but it’s a reasonable objective going into the offseason since the Sabres have a significant number of assets (including prospects and picks) to make a deal.’

Sulzer, Sabres renew acquaintances

‘”We were surprised, pleasantly surprised, with his play.”‘

Sabres re-sign defenseman Sulzer

‘“I think he played very well with Christian,” Sabres general manager Darcy Regier said Monday inside the First Niagara Center. “I think … you really noticed his composure out there, his ability to not only break up plays – which is the most important thing defensively – but to make plays offensively and the patience that he showed.”‘

Sabres sign defenseman Sulzer for one year

‘Sulzer played in 15 games with Buffalo last season after being acquired from the Vancouver Canucks, along with forward Cody Hodgson on Feb. 27. Sulzer, who had three goals and eight points with the Sabres, also appeared in 12 games with the Canucks last season, collecting one assist.’

Sabres sign D Sulzer

‘Sulzer was acquired by Buffalo on February 27 along with forward Cody Hodgson in exchange for defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani and forward Zack Kassian.’

Sulzer’s back for another year

‘This signing gives them eight NHL defensemen if you count Brayden McNabb. This now gives Regier more flexibility as he looks to makes moves.’

Sabres Regier updates off season progress

‘So with all the discussions they’ve had in the almost two months since the season ended what have they come up with? Regier said, “We’re going to look at the free agency market and it’s a pretty small market, we’ll look at the trades, we’ll look obviously at the draft. I think that’s where we’ll see most of the activity going into free agency. The flexibility we have with the two first round picks, two second round picks and then we’ll have a better understanding as we get closer to the draft as to what exactly is available on the market, outside of the free agency.”’

How was Pominville’s 1st year as captain?

‘Lindy Ruff doesn’t like strong willed captains that are in his face. He’s had four of them in Drury, Briere, Michael Peca and Craig Rivet and he didn’t like it. He would prefer players that are more laid back and do what they’re told like Stu Barnes, Pominville and even Jochen Hecht who he almost made captain before Rivet.’

Sabres Sign Defenseman Alexander Sulzer

‘Sulzer (6’1”, 204 lbs, 5/30/84) collected eight points (3+5) in 15 games with the Sabres last season after being acquired from the Vancouver Canucks, along with forward Cody Hodgson on February 27. Sulzer also appeared in 12 games with the Canucks last season, collecting one assist.’
