‘Hasek decided to start the program in what turned out to be his final season in Buffalo. It debuted in 2001 and now includes some 200 players, ranging in age from 3 to 16. They are kids of all stripes, generally from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Judging by the number of youngsters zipping around the ice, the program is making its mark. Indeed, it has become a feeder system to the city’s public high school league. This season’s champs, South Park High School, included five alumni of the program.’
