Stafford Out For Friday

'Stafford suffered an ankle injury in Wednesday's victory over Florida. He left the game early and did not practice Thursday.'

Sabres rattled less after a flummoxing first half

'"We're still having trouble burying pucks, but I think the way we've played lately we're proving to ourselves that we can win different types of games," Miller said. "We're probably a few wins shy of where I thought we would be, but other than early in the season our effort has been there and we're climbing. That's where you want to be right now."'

Miller shuts the door

‘Stafford injured his ankle in the final minute of the first period. The play was in the Panthers’ zone, and Stafford’s right leg got caught under Florida defenseman Bryan Allen. Stafford stayed on the bench for the final 45 seconds of the period, then was trailed to the dressing room by trainer Tim Macre.’

Aud memories many, but old seats are few

‘The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. has already spent more than $15,000 to salvage approximately 500 of the 4,000 blue section seats, Executive Director Charles Rosenow said. Budget and time constraints make it unlikely additional seats can be saved, said Rosenow, who is overseeing day-to-day operations related to the cleanup and razing of the Aud.’

Sabres responsible for team's decline

'In other words, few Sabres are reaching their potential this season. Unless that changes soon, the team's season will end much sooner than anticipated.'

‘The shutout was Miller’s second of the season. He beat Atlanta 6-0 on Oct. 11.’

‘”It felt nice,” said Vanek, referring to the lone tally. “I mean I’ve had 20 of those (scoring chances) already this year and that’s the first one I got in. So, it was nice but, like I said, I’m more worried about winning. That’s three in a row and we’ll go for four in Atlanta.”‘

Miller Shines In Shutout

‘After no scoring in the first, the Sabres took the lead just 40 seconds into the second as Thomas Vanek pounded home a power play goal.’

Sunny smiles

‘The news was not all good for the Sabres leaving the arena with a win. Winger Drew Stafford left the game in the second period with an apparent ankle injury after getting tangled up with Florida’s Bryan Allen.’

Quiet determination for Sabres

'“We had a couple good chances off rushes, and we capitalized,” said MacArthur, who was just as pleased with the line’s defensive work. “I mean, we were playing against the Lecavalier line, their ‘D’ are pinching, and they’re going nonstop offense. It was just kind of guard the fort as best we could there.”'

Pratt skates against ex-teammates

'“It’s not just another game, but once it starts I’m sure it will be,” Pratt said. “I’m still very good friends with at least half these guys.”'
