Numminen aware of risk in heart issue

'Numminen said his condition is a swollen aorta. "It grows and eventually it will grow to the point they have to replace the valve," Numminen said. "That will be a surgery hopefully 10, 20, 30 years from now. We have to monitor it every year and see how fast it grows. Doctors say I'm OK to do what I do and there's no risks involved."'

Watching doesn't sit with Briere

'Briere, the Sabres' leading scorer, has been sore since last week. He said rest has been the only thing that's soothing. "That's what I need right now. We all knew with the schedule this year there's not going to be any time to rest until the Olympic break. It's tough," he said. "I thought we'd take the day off to try to let it heal. We'll see (today) how it is. It's a day-to-day thing."'

Sabres vs. Canadiens

'Of a possible 10 points in the last five games, the Sabres recorded nine.'

The Thanksgiving Column

'With it being Thanksgiving, this seems to be a good time to take a break from ragging on the Sabres about their bad drafting, bad management, bad coaching, and mediocre playing, and think about some of the special moments that have made me thankful to be a Sabre fan for the last 35 years.'
