‘None of the three local teams has played the Sabres since Monday. The Devils finish the season in Buffalo April 6.’
'The Canes outshot the Sabres 29-15 through two periods and 10-0 in the third but were undone by three Buffalo power-play goals, including two five-on-threes.'
'“We've made some changes and there's some good chemistry,'' Ruff said. “There are guys having fun playing with each other. When you get on a little bit of a roll you want to stay on it.'''
'The Buffalo Sabres maximized their chances, relied on their special teams and leaned on their goaltender to record their first four-game winning streak of the season.'
'According to team officials, a relative of Campbell who lives in Toronto has been diagnosed with symptoms related to SARS. That person, whose identity was not immediately known, may have exposed Campbell and Warrener while visiting earlier this week.'
Defensemen Rhett Warrener and Brian Campbell, who played in the Sabres 4-1 victory over Montreal on Friday, did not travel with the team for its game at Carolina on Saturday night. Erie County Health Commissioner Anthony Billittier recommended the players remain isolated for 10 days, effectively ending their season because the Sabres play their last game April 6.
The word is out. Knock Taylor Pyatt out and he'll come back like scoring machine. The other half of the Michael Peca trade came through with some fireworks Friday night as the Buffalo Sabres beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-1. Pyatt scored his first ever NHL hat trick after coming back from a concussion that forced him to miss 4 games.
'Rhett Warrener is the only Buffalo defenseman with a positive rating (plus-1).'
'But the night belonged to Pyatt. His father, former NHL player Nelson Pyatt, mother and brother were among the 16,024 in attendance. It was one of the Pyatt family's infrequent trips to the arena to see Taylor play.'
'"Some, my agent included, said it might be smart just to take (the season) off," he said. "He kind of said, "You know, maybe if it doesn't feel 100 percent you should rest it and not worry about it.' I just want to play. I don't want to finish the season injured."'
You have to give Buffalo credit; they came out hard and gave 100 per cent, Canadiens forward Chad Kilger said. I would not want to guess what percentage we gave.
'Rochester billionaire Thomas Golisano has rescued the team from bankruptcy, but there has been no indication he will pour money into the franchise. In fact, all the suggestions are that the Sabres' payroll, which is already among the lowest in the NHL, will be lower next season.'
'"Did I dive?" Brière asked, rhetorically. "It's a tough play … the puck was in my skate, I thought … everybody was collapsing to the middle. … What can I say? It's tough, I mean … ." Brière's name wasn't on this week's list of divers, which included Los Angeles' Sean Avery, Columbus' Tyler Wright and Vancouver's Jarkko Ruutu, but it will undoubtedly be on it next week.'
'After returning from Buffalo for Friday night’s 2-1 Amerks victory over Norfolk, the center is headed back to the Sabres. Buffalo center Curtis Brown broke his ankle Friday night.'
'Friday was Montreal's first game in the United States since a significant portion of the fans at the Bell Centre booed the U.S. national anthem last Thursday. Fans at HSBC Arena cheered loudly after both anthems.'
