The Sabres Report - December 4, 2008

Marker Sabres place RW Kaleta on IR; recall D Weber [1:35 PM]
AP reports: 'Kaleta, who ranks second on the team with 49 hits, was hurt in a 3-2 loss at Montreal last weekend and did not play in a 2-0 loss to Nashville on Monday. The fourth-line player has a goal and assist and 48 penalty minutes in 21 games this season.'

Marker Weber recalled from Portland [1:34 PM]
Sabres.com reports: 'This is the second recall of the season for Weber (20 years old, 6’2”, 199 lbs.), who currently has two points (0+2) in 19 games with Portland, along with 51 PIMs and a plus-5 rating.'

Marker Sabres Thanksgiving [12:12 PM]
Artvoice reports: 'The yawning gaps of empty blue seats in the uppermost corners of the 300s have now spread to all four corners. What should have been a sellout last Wednesday before Thanksgiving, one of the biggest party nights of the year downtown, fell a few hundred seats short. Have the Sabres overreached on single ticket pricing?'

Marker Stafford brings hot streak to Florida [7:28 AM]
Buffalo News reports: '“I don’t read that. I don’t really pay attention to that. I don’t really care,” Stafford said this week. “I can figure it out on my own. It comes back to things I can control, and I pretty much live my life like that, making sure if there’s things I need to work on, things that I need to get better, making sure that I’m doing that, and whatever else happens, happens.”'

Marker A numbing loss for the Sabres [7:25 PM]
Olean Times Herald reports: '“It was a turnover fest. It was frustrating - really frustrating. Our fans were frustrated. I understand why. It was a frustrating game to watch.”'

Marker A fresh start [6:18 PM]
Sabres.com reports: '“We discussed where we want to go from here. We’ve put this part of the season behind us and we’re starting fresh,” Ruff said. “We told them everybody’s stats are the same… We’re getting everybody back on the same page.”'

Marker Lackluster Sabres draw a blank [6:17 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'The Sabres' 2-0 loss to the Nashville Predators before a sellout crowd of 18,690 was about as flat an effort — by both teams — as we've seen since the NHL lockout.'

Marker Rivet, Kaleta sidelined with injuries [6:16 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'The team emphasized Rivet's injury was an upper-body ailment and not related to the knee surgery that caused the defenseman to miss five games last month. Coach Lindy Ruff said Rivet was injured on a hit during the Montreal game.'

Marker Nashville 2, Buffalo 0 [6:13 AM]
The Sports Network reports: 'Ryan Miller made 25 saves for the Sabres, who have dropped two in a row and were blanked at home for the second time in five contests at HSBC Arena.'

Marker Arnott, Dumont Lead Predators To 2-0 Win Over Sabres [6:12 AM]
WGR-AM reports: 'Dumont put the Predators up by two goals only a few minutes later. Defenseman Shea Weber took a shot that was stopped by Miller, however the rebound deflected off Henrik Tallinder's skate back toward the net. A diving Dumont extended his stick to tap the loose puck just hard enough so that it cleared the goalline to give Nashville a 2-0 lead.'

Marker Taking chances [6:11 AM]
Sabres.com reports: '“It was tough… there wasn’t a lot of flow in that game,” Clarke MacArthur said. “At the same time it’s no excuse. They weren’t getting any bounces either early. They just ended up going harder at the end and getting a win.”'

Marker Sabres can't solve Rinne [6:10 AM]
LetsGoSabres.com reports: 'J.P. Dumont. Why did we let him go again?'

Marker Rivet out with injury, Kotalik back in for Sabres [9:46 PM]
AP reports: 'The defenseman was on the ice when the Sabres skated Monday morning, then scratched later in the afternoon. The Sabres, who next play on Thursday night at Florida, said he is day-to-day.'

Marker Rivet, Kaleta out but Kotalik returns for Sabres [9:45 PM]
The Sports Network reports: 'Defenseman Craig Rivet was a late scratch due to an undisclosed upper body injury while forward Patrick Kaleta was previously ruled out due to an injury suffered Saturday against Montreal.'

Marker Unbalanced scoring weighs down Sabres [6:54 AM]
Buffalo News reports: 'So Vanek has 18, meaning the Sabres have gotten 38 of their 65 goals from just four players — Vanek, Jason Pominville (eight), Derek Roy and Clarke MacArthur (six each). That’s 58.5 percent of the offense, making the Sabres one of the most unbalanced attacks in the league heading into tonight’s visit by Nashville.'

Marker Sabres fall short in Montreal, lose 3-2 [2:08 PM]
LetsGoSabres.com reports: 'Montreal won 3-2 and scored all three goals in the second period. The deciding goal by Andrei Markow was the worst of them all. The Sabres played that 4-on-4 like they were short-handed. They sat back and let Montreal dominate play in the Sabres' defensive zone. That was ultimately the deciding mistake in this game. If it wasn't for that, this game probably would have gone into overtime and the Sabres would have earned at least one point for their efforts. Instead, the Sabres lost again in Montreal.'
